| We are seeking enthusiastic applicants throughout the year that have the Right Stuff to teach and lead our exciting treks based out of Camp Sheppard in the summer. Applicants will be evaluated on attributes such as: attitude, leadership, experience, knowledge, physical ability and group dynamics. Those excepted will work with more experienced staff members teaching and leading trekkers during challenging backcountry mountaineering, backpacking and mountain biking treks. Groups will be away from our Camp Sheppard Base Camp for up to 12 days and reach majestic summits up to 14,410’ in elevation. |

| Persons aged 16 or 17 who are interested in learning more about an Instructor In Training position are invited to visit Sheppard Base during any summer weekend or week for an Instructor In Training Orientation before they apply for an Instructor position at age 18. |
Job Description: Be a good role model with great attitude. Learn the overall CSHAB program while following the scout oath, law, rules of the camp and staff guidelines. Be teachable and ready for action. Learn and teach trek curriculum and skills to staff and trekkers as assigned by the Base and Program Director. Learn trek routes, schedules and procedures while assisting Senior and Lead Instructors leading treks. Assist with gear and food preparation as well as other tasks assigned by the Base and Program Directors. Promote the CSHAB. Have fun. Requirements: At least 18 years of age by the first trek week, registered with BSA, previous scout leadership, long term backpacking experience, takes direction and works well with others, displays leadership, safety minded and can supply recommendations. Has current BSA Climbing Instructor certification (staff week). Can teach outdoor skills and merit badges. Preferred Experience: Previous CSHAB IIT or equal, Mountaineering Basic, ESAR Basic and Team Leader; current Standard First Aid (SFA), Mountaineering Oriented First Aid (MOFA), Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or First Responder. Senior Patrol Leader or Crew President. Eagle rank award. |

Know and teach bike repair to staff and trekkers. Be the Trek Leader on mountain bike and backpacking treks or assist other staff leading those treks. As the Trek Leader, be responsible for all instruction and group safety. Assist with gear and food preparation as well as other tasks assigned the Base and Program Director. Promote the CSHAB. Have fun. Requirements: At least 21 years of age by the first trek week, registered with BSA, previous scout leadership, long term backpacking experience, takes direction and works well with others, displays leadership, safety minded and can supply recommendations. Has completed mountain bike riding and repair training provided by local bike shop, MOFA or WFA, skilled mountain bike rider, can teach merit badges and has good knowledge of local trail system. Preferred Experience: Previous CSHAB Instructor or equal, previous scout leadership, ESAR Team/Field /Operation Leader or equal. Eagle rank award. |

Assist with mountaineering gear and food planning as well as other tasks assigned the Base and Program Director. Promote the CSHAB. Have fun. Requirements: At least 21 years of age by the first trek week, registered with BSA, previous scout leadership, long term backpacking experience, takes direction and works well with others, displays leadership, safety minded and can supply recommendations, current BSA Climbing Director Certification, National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) certification and Mountaineering Intermediate and extensive climbing resume. Can instruct other staff members and plan mountaineering treks. Experience Preferred: Previous CSHAB Lead Instructor or equal. SAR Field/Operation Leader or equal and Eagle rank award. |

Requirements: At least 21 years of age by the first trek week, registered with BSA, previous scout leadership, long term backpacking experience, takes direction and works well with others, displays leadership, safety minded and can supply recommendations current BSA Climbing Instructor Certification, current BSA Program Director Certification, Mountaineering Basic, extensive backpacking and climbing resume. Can instruct and lead other staff members plus plan High Adventure treks. Experience Preferred: Previous CSHAB Lead Instructor or equal. SAR Field/Operation Leader or equal and Eagle rank award. |
| Schedule Instructors must be available for 9 weeks from the last week of June through the third week August. Applications must be received at Camp Sheppard by March 21. Applicants must be available for a staff interview hike during the last weekend in March. |
