The Trek
If you love to hike and want to see what a fantastic mountain really
looks like all the way around, this once in a lifetime trek is a Must
Do for you. Mt. Rainier attracts mountain lovers like a magnet. The
famous Wonderland Trail could be considered the most popular hike in
the Northwest and is the ultimate hike in Mt. Rainier National Park.
It is well known for its trail quality, stunning views and being so
close to the Mountain. This challenging trek for older scouts, is one
of our long time favorites and the ultimate hike offered by our nearby
High Adventure Base.
We include Leave No Trace camping and cooking, map, compass and GPS
instruction, some cross country hiking, problem solving, exploration,
merit badge work, Ranger Award experience, patrol building, individual
recognition, excitement and amazing scenery. This specialized experience
will prepare older trekkers to return to our High Adventure Base for
even greater challenges. We’re going, let’s hike!
Note: This is our most difficult hike and should not be attempted unless
trekkers are in good physical condition. Trekkers must be committed
to completing the entire trek while spending twice the time on the
trail as other treks with their group. Because of the popularity of
The Park, backcountry fires are not permitted and camping is by permit
only on a first-come, first-served basis. If we do not receive a permit
because of high demand, we will choose the 7-day, 50- Mile Pacific
Crest Trail/ Goat Rocks Wilderness Trek as a worthy alternate.
Suggested physical
training before the trek: Cardio-vascular exercise such as hiking
with a loaded pack, biking, running and weight training.
