-Sample Itinerary-

 

Sunday - Bus pick-up at SeaTac airport at 12 noon and/or arrive at Camp Sheppard High Adventure Base by 1PM. Introductions, trek orientation, equipment check. Instruction: Dressing for the mountains and pack packing. Gear and food issue. Bus shuttle to the White River trailhead, elev. 4400’, group picture.

Hike 6.8 miles up to Summerland camp, elev.5940’. Instruction: Camp site selection and prep plus tarp pitching, Dinner. Instruction: Stove use and care, basic cooking, water treatment and illness, sanitation and hygiene, bear camping techniques, body comfort control, hypothermia and emergency procedures. Free time.

Monday - 4.5 mi.- Breakfast, break camp, hike up over Panhandle Gap, 6750’, to Indian Bar camp, 5120’. Instruction: Energy conservation, plant and animal identification and foot care. Make camp, free time, Dinner. Instruction: Food planning, wilderness ethics, land use polices, Leave No Trace, daily travel planning and High Adventure history. Free time.

Tuesday - 10.0 mi.- Hike down through Nickel Creek and Box Canyon to Maple Creek camp, 2815’. Instruction: Stream crossing, glaciology, geology nutrition and hydration. Free time.

Wednesday - 6.8 mi.- Hike up past Reflection Lakes, 4900’ then down to Paradise River Camp, 3805’. Instruction: Problem solving and service project. Dinner, free time.

Thursday - Layover Day, 4.0 mi.- Hike 2.0 miles up to Paradise, 5500’, for lunch. Visit: Paradise Lodge, Guide Hut, Visitors Center and pick up food and clean clothes drop at Paradise Ranger Station. Return to camp for dinner. Free time.

Friday - 9.3 mi.- Hike down through Longmire, 2800’ and up through Pyramid Creek to Devils Dream camp, 5512’. Instruction: Map reading, compass and GPS use, route finding/ travel techniques. Free time.

Saturday - 13.0 mi.- Hike up over Emerald Ridge, 5600’, down to South Puyallup River, 4000’, lunch, then up through St. Andrews and Klapatche Park, 5500’, then down to North Puyallup River camp, 3750’. Instruction; mountain ecosystems/ habitats, weather, lighting and avalanche. Free time.

Sunday - 4.9 mi.- Hike up to Golden Lakes camp, 5130’. Make camp, free time, Dinner. Free time.

Monday - 10.0 mi.- Hike down to South Mowich River, 2600’, then up to Mowich Lake Campground, 4930’. Pick up food drop and clean clothes, make camp, free time, dinner, more free time.

Tuesday - 6.5 mi.- Hike up through Spray Park then down to Cataract Valley camp, 4700’. Make camp, free time, dinner, and more free time.

Wednesday - 12 mi.- Hike down to Carbon River, 3200’, then up to Mystic Lk. , 5570, for lunch, then down across the West Fork White River and up to Granite Creek camp, 5765. Make camp, dinner, and free
time.

Thursday - 8.2 mi., last day.- Hike up past Frozen Lake then down to Sunrise Ranger Station, 6400’, rest. Hike final 3.1 down to the White River Campground parking lot, 4400’, start point by 12 noon lunch. Group picture, bus ride back to Camp Sheppard Base, clean up, turn in gear, BBQ dinner and recognition ceremony. Local trekkers leave for home, free time.

Guests are invited to a 5PM all-you-can-eat BBQ chicken dinner at our Camp Sheppard Base for $5 per person. They should contact base before arrival please.

Friday - Early breakfast, bus shuttle to Sea-Tac airport by 9AM.
