You Provide
We Provide

Equipment
__ Backpack- large, min. 4500 cu. in., internal or external frame with good hip belt (Be ready to carry at least 40 to 50 lbs.)
__ Sleeping pad – Therma-rest or equivalent
__ Sleeping bag – warm to 32 degrees or colder
__ Sleeping bag stuff sack - nylon with plastic sack liner to keep bag dry
__ 2 sleeping bag straps - nylon with buckle, not bungee type
__ Drinking cup – plastic, not metal
__ Bowl – large plastic
__ Eating spoon - large
__ 2 Water bottles – wide mouth with name or initials written on them
__ Pocket knife - small
__ Disposable lighter or matches - in waterproof container
__ Headlamp - with extra batteries and bulb
__ Glacier glasses - with side shades, UV and polarizing
__ Ski goggles – (foul weather protection)
__ 2 Trash bags – ( emergency shelter and/or pack rain cover)
__ Travel/Duffel bag – (for spare clothes, etc., store at Advance Base. Mark all personal items with your name).

Clothing
__ 1 Change underwear – (in travel bag)
__ 3 T-shirt – (wear 1, carry 1, store 1 - not cotton) A Class B uniform scout T- shirt will be worn during program activities at Sheppard Base. Wearing a complete Class A field uniform during Sheppard Base dinner and ceremonies is encouraged.
__ Long underwear - lightweight poly or wool (not cotton), long sleeved top and bottom
__ Warm hat or balaclava - wool or pile
__ Sun hat - ball cap and/or bandana
__ Lightweight gloves – poly or wool
__ Gloves or mitts - thick insulating
__ Outer gloves or mitts - Gore-tex or equivalent to fit over insulating gloves or mitts
__ Warm shirt - long sleeved poly or wool
__ 2nd Warm shirt, jacket or sweater – thick poly fleece, wool or down, roomy to fit OVER other layers
__ Raincoat or jacket - Gore-tex or coated nylon (no poncho)
__ Hiking shorts – not cotton
__ Warm pants - poly fleece or wool, (no cotton) legs open wide to go on OVER boots and crampons
__ 5 pr socks – 3 light, 2 heavyweight, poly or wool - not cotton (wear 2, carry 2, store 1)
__ Rain pants or chaps - Gore-tex or coated nylon, legs open wide enough to put on OVER boots and crampons
__ Gaiters – lightweight (keeps snow, water and wind out of boot top area)
__ Hiking boots - broken in, waterproof treated, shank to support crampons
__ Travel clothes (store at Base)

Note: Pack clothes in plastic bags to keep them dry inside pack.

Other
__ Sunscreen - spf rated
__ Lip screen - spf rated
__ Ear plugs – soft foam or rubber (reduces wind tent-noise during sleep)
__ Toothbrush & toothpaste
__ Hand towel - small
__ Moleskin– blister treatment
__ Band Aids
__ Aspirin/Ibuprofen
__ Adhesive tape - small 1” roll
__ Personal medications - in pharmacy’s labeled container
__ Toilet paper - small roll, double wrapped in plastic bags
__ Bath soap – (in travel bag)
__ Bath towel – (in travel bag)
__ Class III Medical Form

Optional
__ Mountaineering double boots – Plastic outside with warm liner (available at no cost in various sizes for your use)
__ Trekking poles – (used at lower elevation to aid balance and rest legs)
__ Travel/Camp shoes – lightweight sneakers or sandals (Not so good on glaciers!)
__ Camera
__ Paperback book – (rest time & stormy weather)
__ Trekker’s museum donation - Council/Unit patch or nic-nac from each unit on the trek (store at Base)
