Tri-Trek Sample Itinerary

Day 1 Check-In & Team Building
Bus pick-up at SeaTac airport by 12 noon, 1 hr ride to Sheppard Base including high adventure history and/or arrive by 1 PM. Welcome, cabin assignments and lunch. Introductions, seminar orientation, equipment check, team building activity and service project. Dinner and instruction: Dressing for the mountains, knots, rope handling, hardware, signals, belaying and Leave No Trace. Free time and cracker barrel.

Day 2 Rappelling & Bouldering
Breakfast, issue gear, pack daypacks for shake down hike to Ranger Rock rappelling. 30-minute bus ride to Ranger Rock trailhead (2700’). Hike 1⁄4 mile with daypacks to Ranger Rock (3000’). Instruction: Anchors, belaying and rappelling. Practice rappelling techniques. Lunch, 45 min. bus ride to Boulder Alley at Cayuse Pass (4700’). Instruction: Belaying and rock climbing techniques then bus ride back to Base. Dinner and Instruction: Food planning and pack packing. Body comfort control, hypothermia, foot care, nutrition and hydration, gear and food issue then pack for day climb to Camp Schurman Ranger Hut (9500’) in Mount Rainier National Park. Discussion: Mountaineering history, land use policies and wilderness ethics. Free time and cracker barrel.

Day 3
Hiking & Glacier Climbing
Early Breakfast, 30-minute bus ride to White River Campground trailhead (4300’). Hike 3.7 miles up through Glacier Basin to the base of Inter Glacier (7000’). Instruction: Plant and animal identification. Rope up and put on crampons for 2500’climb up Inter Glacier to the top of Steamboat Prow (9700’) and Camp Schurman Mountain Ranger Hut (9500’). Instruction: Crampon & ice axe use, self arrest, signals, glacier travel, energy conservation, map reading, compass and GPS use, steep snow slopes. Rest break at Camp Curtis. Arrive at Ranger Hut, lunch and
group picture. Instruction: Weather, lightning, avalanche, emergency procedures, geology/glaciology, ecosystems, habitats. Descend out to trailhead and bus ride back to Sheppard Base. Dinner, free time and
cracker barrel.

Day 4 Wilderness Survival
Breakfast and Instruction: 10 Essentials, Hypothermia, PMA- Positive Mental Attitude, nutrition, hydration, water treatment/ illness, sanitation and hygiene, shelter construction plus emergency procedures and Search and Rescue.

Day 5 Mountain Biking and BBQ
Breakfast and Instruction: Bike basics - Balance, braking, turning, gear shifting, body position, obstacles, adjustments and repair. Ride bike obstacle course then valley trail. Lunch and bus ride up to Sun Top Fire Lookout (5270’). Bike down terrific single track trail 10 miles to Sheppard Base. Turn in gear, clean up, BBQ Dinner, awards ceremony and group picture. Local trekkers depart for home. Free time and cracker barrel.
Guests are invited to 5 PM all-you-can-eat chicken BBQ and awards ceremony for $5 per person. They should inform Base in advance of arrival please.

Day 6 Bus to SeaTac
Early breakfast, leave Base in time for scheduled flights.
