The Trek
Imagine the adventure of rock climbing and rappelling, dynamic glacier
mountaineering, an overnight survival bivouac and thrilling mountain
bike rides all during the same week!
This is the Tri-Trek.
We use our beautiful chalet-style Camp Sheppard High Adventure Base
area to teach you basic rope handling and mountain bike skills then
venture
out into the Snoqualmie
National
Forest for rappelling and mountain biking plus close by Mt. Rainier
National Park for bouldering and glacier
snow and ice climbing. Your high point could be Camp Schurman Mountain
Ranger Hut (9500’)
on magnificent Mt. Rainier.
You’ll learn about real climbing and mountain biking in the Pacific
Northwest with the help of our expert instructors, your friends and
amazing views. Mountaineering instruction starts with basic skills
such as: climbing knots, rope handling, belaying, signals, rock climbing,
rappelling and hazard evaluation. Once on the mountain it’s time
for more instruction including ice axe use and fall protection; the
climbing
adventure you’ve been waiting for.
And for something different than then other treks, we offer Wilderness
Survival Training that includes an overnight bivouac with several of
your crew in a shelter you construct out of your gear and natural materials.
We teach you the basics, the rest is up to you. Our very popular mountain
bike routes have been featured in Mountain Bike magazine
and local riding guidebooks. They are known for their variety and rewarding
scenery. We can also customize Tri-Trek features to meet trekker's
specific requests for High Adventure.
This is one of the rarest opportunities in all of Scouting and will
prepare trekkers to return to Sheppard Base for even greater challenges
in the
future. We’re
going, let’s
trek!
Note: This is a challenging trek and should not
be attempted unless trekkers are in good physical condition. See Fitness
Requirements.
