Yosemite ‘07

Notes and Random Thoughts
  1.  Fishing licenses are about $30-$40 for 10 days.  They can be purchased at the store in Tuolumne Meadows, if it is open at that time of year, depending on the snow pack.
  2.  If snow pack turns out the be normal or above we may not be able to have food packed into Vogelsang High Sierra Camp.
  3.  Everyone bring their own food and we will mix and match, or each person brings two days of food for everyone and we take turns cooking and feeding each other.  Let me know your opinion on this one.
  4.  I have found the fish like a Mepps #1 red and white lure, but have seen successful fly fishing as well.  These are brown trout.  In some of the remote lakes we have caught them as big as 16”.
  5.  I will post photocopies of the guide book’s routes on these peaks so you can read and interpret our route as well.
  6.  I will reserve camping in Tuolumne Meadows for the night of the 6th, Friday.  There is a limit on the number of cars at a campsite, so we should try to carpool (duh!! from Washington!).  There is plenty of parking for extra cars for the two week trip along the road to the stables.
  7.  We can coordinate tents, stove, fuel, water filters, climbing hardware, etc later this spring.
  8.  Costs for the trip-$5.00 per person for trail reservations, non-refundable to park service.  Bear cans cost $5 for as long as you have them-2 wks or 6 wks. Can rent at any store or permit station in park.
  9.  Limit to group size is 12.
  10.  Craig, if you started with us, you could drop out at Vogelsang High Sierra Camp.  It is 7+ trail mile from there back to Tuolumne Meadows.
  11. A long route in to meet us is up the Lyell Canyon, 11 miles to Lyell Peak or McClure Lake.  Climb McClure and Lyell and then descend same route, or go south from Donahue Pass to Waugh Lake and out June Lake to catch shuttle bus back to Tuolumne early in the morning.
  12. Another entrance is from Agnew Meadows up to 1000 Island Lake and over to Catherine Lake for ascent of Banner and Ritter.
